Magical Bridesmaid Dresses
Over the last couple of years I have made few sets of bridesmaid dresses. These two dresses are the latest as well as the smallest order. Given the four months time frame for making the two dresses I feel like I invested myself into these more than usual.
The bride presented me the idea and the colour range of blues and violets. Girls were arranged to come over and had the measurements taken. They also shared some ideas and preferences for the dresses. That is always helpful in terms of getting the dress right and keeping everyone happy. Ideally the bespoke bridesmaid dress should turn out to reflect the brides needs as well as the bridesmaids.
Seeking the fabrics went well and soon everything was ready to be cut. Along the way we had several fittings and tackled few problems. Mixing different fabrics such as lace, satin crepe and chiffon is always tricky. Bodice was made to fit like a glove and structured with boning. Skirt in contrast was flowy with petite train at the back.
I think the magical thing about these dresses is the dimension in the colour, mainly due to the different fabrics and sheerness. The shaded pink tones of satin under-layer show through the lace and chiffon. Lace itself has brighter shades of violets and two tone chiffon brings some blue hues. This rather busy playground of hues made us drop the contrast waistband idea and go for the more subtle ruched chiffon waistband that blends in with the skirt. In the end it all came together in a refined glamorous look.
I really enjoyed working with the girls and proud of making the dresses. And most importantly-they looked amazing on the day.
Compliments to the girls and
Congratulations to the Newlyweds!
